What Causes High Fever, Itchy Rashes On Back And Herpangina?

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Jul 2014
Question: Over 2 weeks ago a child at my son's daycare was diagnosed with scabies, and that same week there was a fever virus going around . My 18 month old had a 103 fever last week and had a rash on the back if his neck at his hairline that only itches mildly in the evening. Two days later the rash faded but he developed herpangina from the fever. 4 days later the fever came back but more low grade and sores are almost clear in mouth but rash is now in raised patches on stomach and small dots on arms and legs. When treated with hydrocortisone cream the rash fades and you can hardly see it. Could it be scabies? Or side effect from fever virus?

Brief Answer:
Yes,most probably it may be Scabies.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your history suggests that it may be Scabies.

Mainly out break of Scabies in the day care center is supportive. It is a contagious disease caused by Sarcaptus scbii. It effects entire body commonly hands and feet and perianal area. The fever and rash may be due to secondary bacterial infection.

Personal hygiene is most important.

I would suggest Permethrin lotion or ointment local application after discussing with yoru treating doctor. Besides, antibiotics for secondary bacterial infection and antipyretics for fever will be useful.

I suggest you get the treatment done early under proper guidance because if it is not treated promptly it may lead to serious complication like Nephritis.
Better consult dermatologist for prompt and proper treatment.
