What Causes High CRP With History Of Pnuemonia?
Brief Answer:
continue treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Looking at the clinical findings and query, my opinion is as follows:
1. There is ongoing inflammation and that's reason CRP is high.
2. If he is feeling better, its good. However, do continue the treatment as it could be helping him.
3. Watch for fever, weakness, any delirious conditions.
4. If the antibiotics have completed five days, he might need additional few days.
5. WBC counts at present indicate no problems. However, see if any specific cell counts are more than normal.
Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.

Thank you for that. Only monocytes are elevated slightly at 0.9 giga/l. If we want a follow up blood draw to check on progress, when would be the best time point?
Brief Answer:
CRP Changes should occur in maximum three days.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking again.
Elevated monocytes do not signify anything.
Do repeat after three days to look for continued elevation of CRP and any changes in WBC differential or total counts.
That should be adequate.

Sorry to keep going at this but in reality the thinking is that the CRP and WBC could actually be on the upward swing here rarher than downward? He is 89 so at times its hard to gauge delerium. Does WBC follow CRP or is it the other way around?
Brief Answer:
both go together.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking again.
Yes, both should rise upward. At present, concern is more with CRP as it is high indicating infection. WBC will definitely increase, but due to age it might be delayed.
Usually Both go together. However, due to age it might be trailing.
If it falls, better.
