Question: My husband is 75 years old. He has had diarrhea this morning and is now very sweaty. No fever and he says his stomach is uncomfortable, but no other pain.

Brief Answer:
Further details are needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation your husband is in.

Before running into final conclusions, I need to have further details:
- did he consumed any new food/drink last night or this morning?
- is he suffering of any other illness?
- is he taking any new medication recently or any medication on regular basis?

From what you are saying, it might be indigestion or food poisoning.
Being very sweaty might be due to loss of fluids and electrolytes due to diarrhea.

I advise to:
- make him drink plenty of water to keep well hydrated
- give him oral rehydration salt (ORS) to replace the lost electrolytes
- give antacids to optimize his stomach pH
- give tasectan or pepto bismol for diarrhea
- make him take probiotics to optimize intestinal flor

Looking forward to have the requested details in!

No NEW food or medication. He and I shared a meal last night, and I am fine. He currently takes meds for high blood pressure and for Afib. He has been on these meds for several years, actually. I have had him do all the tests for stroke, stick out tongue, raise arm, smile, etc. Says he has no pain in his left arm or chest. He seems perfectly lucid. This just came on so fast and was unexpected. Could not even make it to toilet with the diarrhea. He is some better now, but stomach is still affected, maybe like he has gas. He did eat some chocolate that I did not share, but otherwise, we ate the same things. Will keep him hydrated and continue to watch him. He had a bout of Gram Negative Sepsis in 2008, so I panicked. None of the same symptoms this time. Thank you for your response.

Brief Answer:
Continue following the earlier advice&monitor his body temperature&symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

After revising your last comments, I can only say that it might be related to early signs of stomach flu.

I highly recommend to continue following the advice as given earlier and to observe his body temperature or if the symptoms will get worse. If yes, should send him to hospital or see his doctor as soon as possible.

Wish fast recovery!
