Brief Answer:
New combination of antibiotics may be necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Treatment for brucellosis aims to relieve symptoms, prevent the disease from relapsingand prevention of complications.

Even with treatment, this disease can return and become chronic.

Antibiotics used for brucellosis include Doxycyclin (tried), Streptomycin, Gentamicin, Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, Ceftriaxone (tried), Rifampin(tried), Tetracycline, Ciprofloxacin, Imipenem.

In my opinion, a new combination of antibiotics for at least six weeks.

Symptomatic treatment with NSAID, painkillers, corticosteroids, may be necessary also.

Please discuss with an infectious diseases Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

I guess my concern is that the diagnosis may not be correct. Is there something else that causes these same symptoms that we may be missing? Could something else be going on with him that we need to explore further?

Brief Answer:
Other conditions listed below.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Brucellosis is a diagnosis achieved mainly by appropriate blood tests.

If tests resulted positive, then this is the most probable condition that is causing your son's symptoms.

Other possible conditions to include in differential diagnosis are collagen-vascular disease, malignancy, bacterial pneumonia, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, rickettsial disease etc.

Again, blood tests and imaging studies are of paramount value in these cases, besides clinical signs.

Please discuss with your son's treating Doctor about these issues in details.

Kind regards.
