Brief Answer:
Headaches not normal. Need more information. Can you answer a few more questions?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for your query.

I am Dr.Senduran,General physician answering your query.

Chronic headache associated with cough is relatively uncommon..Needs evaluation to find the cause.

I would like to have few more information to provide better opinions regarding your headache..

1)How long have you been suffering with such episodes ?
2)Does the headache only affect one side or both sides ?
3)Did you notice any other symptoms like nausea, vision disturbances ?
4)How much time does the headache episode prolong ?
5)Can you describe the quality of headache like throbbing, dull aching, headache associated with heaviness etc
6)How severe the pain is ? You can also indicate in pain scale(measuring 1-10)
7)Any recent history of head injury ?

With the limited information,my preliminary diagnosis would be benign cough headache.

Please get back with the needed information..

Brief Answer:
Probably benign cough headache..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for providing the needed information..

Bilateral moderate, throbbing headache episodes lasting 5 to 10 minutes following cough, could well correlate with the cough headache(a benign primary headache).

This will resolve gradually on its own in 1 or 2 weeks. In mean time, follow the below suggestions..

1)Identify and avoid triggers that provoke cough
2)Use over the counter cough suppressants like dextromethorphan syrup
3)Effectively treat the cold ..For this you can take levocetirizine and montelekast combination tablet at night..
4)Try gargling with lukewarm water mixed with pinch of salt thrice a day.
5)Use strepsils or Vicks whenever required. This gives soothing effect to the throat..
6)You can take ibuprofen or paracetamol tablet for headache.

With the above measures, this should resolve soon..

If the headache is not improving or increasing in severity, you should consult the neurologist mainly to rule out rare possibility of intracranial lesions or other primary headaches too..

Hope this answers your query. If any further queries, get back to me or else close this discussion and rate the answer..

Regards
