What Causes Headache And Dizziness While On Cetrizine?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: Hello Dr. Kakkar S.

I am taking the below medicines as you prescribed for hives.
pantoprazole 40 mg before breakfast
Tablet Defza 30 mg after breakfast
loratadine 10 mg morning - evening
critizine evening
Calamine 4-5 times a days

This had stopped the spreading of it. But there is just, I would say, 10-15% improvement only. Today is day 2 for Steroids (overall day 4 for rest of the medicines)
There is lot of itching happening
and I think there are side effects of these steroids - I have got headache every morning after consuming those plus dizziness.
Itching has not stopped, its manageable during day but night, its worse.
I still have some more days of sterioids + other medicines course available. Though I plan to continue them.

Could you suggest as to how many days more will it take to fully recover it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I would suggest 7-10 days of the same treatment.
Dizziness could be because of cetrizine because it is sedative. Don't take cetrizine too late in evening Or else you might feel sleepy/ dizzy on next day. Take it early i.e evening at 5 pm or 6 pm.

Could you also upload recent Images of your skin condition?

Instead of critizine, I am taking levo-critizine around 6:30pm

Brief Answer:
Continue with the same treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi

It is definitely improved. Continue with the same treatment for a week.
Yes, levo-cetrizine is Ok. You are taking it rightly. Some people do experience dizzy/ sleepy with levocetrizine (similar to cetrizine) on next day. It has a long action duration of 24 hours. If that is too much of a concern you may discontinue levocetrizine and just take loratadine twice daily (morning and eveing) along with deflazacort and pantoprazole.
