default
Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: Last night I had a hard bowel movement and I immediately had pain in my lower back when i took a deep breath. Today it's spread up my back, and hurts when I inhale. It's better when I lean forward. Did I strain something? It's only on the right side.

Brief Answer:
muscle strain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.
From the symptoms it does seem that you may have strained your back muscles on the right side.

You should take rest along with analgesic muscle relaxant tablets like aceclofenac, paracetamol, tizanidine or chlorzoxazone.
Application of local gel with hot fomentation will help.

Another possibility is of a slipped disc.Rarely, such symptoms may happen due to a lumbar disc prolapse.
I would suggest you to take the above treatment for 3 days and wait for improvement.

If the symptoms worsen or if you do not get any relief, you should consult an orthopedist and get an MRI done to rule out a slipped intervertebral lumbar disc.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
