Question: my 52 year son has been losing control of his right leg slowly for 2 years. No pain. About 6 months or longer his knee started to brother him He said it pops and was painful when it did. Now it hyperextents and he is wearing a brace to keep it from doing so . He feels like he is losing balance with that leg. He has been seeing a neurologist for 4 months .He has had 6 MRI on brain and his spine, normal for a man his age. He has had a study of his nerves and muscles.ok Now he is going to have a spinal tap done, and more blood work. The Dr keeps looking for MS. I asked him if David's knee should be checked tto Maybe a Mir he does think that is needed. He said this is a hard case. He is talking of sending him to another specialist. My son wants to listen to the dr. and not get his knee checked. What do you think?
Brief Answer:
Get the knee checked.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The gradual hyper extension of the knee with popping sound is likely to be related to a degenerative problem of the knee joint. The decrease in muscle strength is related to a nerve problem.
The neurologist can take care of the nerve related gradual weakness of the leg but for hyper extension and instability of the knee it needs a proper evaluation. It is best to follow your neurologist's advice.
I hope this answers your query.
