What Causes Gagging Cough Followed By Vomiting Post Recovery From Bronchitis?

Question: i have just finished a round of antibiotics and medicine for sever bronchitis. i am totally wiped out. here is the problem...everytime i start to clear my throat, i begin to cough...coughing leads immediately to a gag and then i throw up repeatedly. i haven't been able to eat much of anything...so i don't have much to throw up. what can i do to get some relief? i sit up straight for 2 hours after i eat...
my grandfather died of stomach cancer. i have been in reasonably good health most of my life

my weight is 185. I did travel to peru for two weeks in feb. everyone else got sick--I did not. was careful to eat only peeled fruit and veg, and drink only boiled or bottled water.
I live in st. XXXXXXX mo
