What Causes Frightful Hallucination After Hip Fracture?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: My mother is going to be having a hip replacement in a couple of weeks. In XXXXXXX she fell and had a hip fracture repair. After that surgery, she had frightful hallucinations that lasted for several hours. I was going to get the anthesisologist's report to give to the new anthesisologist for the upcoming surgery. This is so he would see what the previous doctor used and maybe help prevent such severe hallucinations from happening. Is this a good idea or a waste of time for me to get the report?

Brief Answer:
Detailed Aneasthetist and Surgeon report important

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

Since your mother has experienced frightful hallucinations after her first surgery, it could be due to many possible causes like a Anaesthetic drug reaction, Dehydration, Post-op delirium etc.

It is wise to consult her previous Anaesthesiologist to find out the cause of the same and also consult her Surgeon by whom she was first operated upon, because certain anaesthetic drugs, possible anaemia or dehydration and other medical causes, seizures and un-identified psychiatric triggers need to be found out which can be avoided or special precautions be taken for the next surgery.

This will help prevent the same occurrence from repeating which may be a threat to her life or contribute to her morbidity.

Kindly go ahead and ask for a detailed report of all the possible causes of her condition from her previous Anaesthesiologist and Surgeon and also if any precautions need be taken for the upcoming surgery.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
