What Causes Frequent Urination Post Feeding In An Infant?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Sep 2014
Question: I have a two months old baby. She urinates very often. Almost 3 to 4 times within an hour after feeding. So she gets hungry again and hence I feed her every one hour. This happens in day time as she is awake the whole day. While at night she sleep well continuously for 4 to 5 hours and at night she urinates only twice or thrice. I doubt if my milk not even stays in her body for some time and she is not gaining weight. Is this normal? What must be done if abnormal? She is not gaining weight.

Brief Answer:
feed and empty one breast before other

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
It is pretty normal for babies to pass urine multiple times after feeding, the reason being breast feed has 80% water .
At the same time, the milk which comes initially is fore milk which has less fat than the hind milk which comes only late . Emptying breast completely will ensure your baby gets enough hindmilk to put on weight.
One more tip : Mother should take plenty of milk and vegetables and fruits. This will ensure good lactation.

But she sleeps in 5 mins itself and ends not suck well. And so I used to change to other breast in between. I used to wake her up also but she sleeps very soon. How to avoid this?

Brief Answer:
dont change breast

Detailed Answer:
Sleeping is unavoidable, but you can try keeping her awake by rubbing gently her ears or back.
Even if she sleeps resume next feeding from the same breast, till empty.

Also regarding vaccination. We have put the first vaccination 45 days correctly on date. Our next vaccination date is on 25 Aug. But we are out of station. Can it be postponed and we put the vaccine on Sept 1 ? Are there any risks in delaying?
Also another question is there any fruits or vegetables or any non veg items which I must not take since it will affect her or won't get digested?

Brief Answer:
No risks in delaying for a week

Detailed Answer:
1. No issues in one week delay. just restart next dose from oct1 after sep1 vaccine
2. Your food intake is not related to babys digestion. All homemade foods are safe. Avoid outside foods and preprocessed foods containing preservatives or artificial flavours like cola drinks
