What Causes Frequent Coughing Episodes After Swallowing Oyster?

Question: Hello - 67 year old male swallowed food wrong way 2 hrs ago (think it was a piece of steak; how long should I wait to see a doctor? How do I know it's not aspirated into wind pipe instead of lodged in esophagus? Thank you.

The patient finally expelled the "stuck" oyster about 8 hours after consuming it, and following frequent coughing episodes. After expelling the oyster, he reported that it felt as though something was still there, but after another 8 hrs he reported that he felt "normal again" and has been eating normally ever since.
