What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Sep 2016
Question: I'm 52 and frequent bowl movements as often as 4 - 7 times a day. Sometime diarrhea but not always. 3 - 4 of the bowel movements are big others small. Various types of stroll across the spectrum. Haven't lost any weight but actually gained a few pounds. Over the past 3 months is dictating my day. I manage my day around having to go to the bathroom, but now it's becoming unmanageable and can happen any time during the day.

Brief Answer:
Probably irritable bowel syndrome......Motility predominance!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this frequent bowel moment that you have reported. I have reviewed your reported symptoms, the duration and its evolution over these past three months. This is very suggestive of irritable bowel syndrome. This has no underlying identified cause and management is strictly to address the different symptoms. However, we need to at least do some basic tests to make sure there is nothing we are missing out on here. For this, I will recommend a quick stool exam and evaluation by your gastroenterologist for confirmation and management. You may want to take loperamide for symptoms control at this time while pending evaluation.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
