What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements, Bloating And Abdominal Discomfort?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: I have frequent bowel movements - not diarrhea - just frequent. I sometimes have odorless mucus all by itself along with odorless gas. I have bloating and some discomfort but not pain. I don't want to go through a lot of expensive tests for a diagnosis - anything over the counter that will help these symptoms?

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. It does appear that you could be having some gastrointestinal condition which will require elaborate investigation to find the diagnosis; but as you do not wish to undergo this I would have the following recommendations, but please also bear in mind that these recommendations can only help you so much as they may not be the accurate treatment for your condition (unknown), but I am trying just for you. They are:

+Drink plenty of water
+Avoid alcohol
+Avoid smoking
+Avoid stress
+Avoid carbonated drinks
+Avoid tea and coffee
+Avoid fried/fatty/oily/spicy food
+Use one 30 mg tablet of lansoprazole once a day, permanently
+Avoid the following trigger factors that can cause the frequent bowel movements (frequent bowel movements take place when a certain food or drink reaches the GIT and the GIT wishes to remove it at the earliest); here is a lost of the most common trigger factors:-
-Popcorn
-Chocolate
-Spicy food
-Fried/oily/fatty food
-Milk and other dairy products (Especially if you are lactose intolerant)
-Carbonated drinks
-Tea or coffee
-Certain vegetables (e.g. beans, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.)
-Alcohol
-Spices
and a few others; but mainly depends on you finding your specific trigger factors and avoiding them.

So my basic treatment suggestion for now is to avoid those things that could be causing your presentation and also taking one antacid tablet per day. If you find an improvement with my regimen from above being followed religiously for at least 1-2 months, then write back to me and I may have a diagnosis for you.

Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
