What Causes Flu Like Symptoms And Fatige When Suffering From Pityriasis Rosea?

Posted on Tue, 9 Sep 2014
Question: Hello I have pityriasis rosea for the 4th time. The last time was in 2012 and it started back in 2006. It has always lasted more than 12 weeks for me and flu like symptoms persist throughout the first 2 months and I get really worn out with chronic fatugue type symptoms for the duration of the outbreak. Allergists and dermetologists have not been able to offer any assistance is there a specialists or specific tests that I should be asking for?

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Yes, there is need to rule out Lyme's disease which often presents as Pityriasis rosea or co-exists with it making it an recurrent issue. You may have to get serological tests for Lyme's disease like ELISA and Western blot. Also, do get a Biopsy of a lesion you have. These tests provide useful information on the condition you have.

Based on the findings in above tests, a suitable treatment can be formulated which can cure and prevent recurrences.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.

Thank you for your reply. I live in Canada and understand that Lyme disease is not well tested or diagnosed here. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

I live far from a major centre in Golden BC, the closest major centre would be Calgary but its in Alberta so I don't know how that works with helath care between the provinces I will ask my doctor as well as I can't go to a dermatoligist without a GP's referal. Otherwise Cranbrook, Kelowna or Kamloops are close and XXXXXXX is also a possibility.

Thanks for your time
