What Causes Fever, Nausea And Bone Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Dec 2016
Question: Yes, thank you. My wife has a "yeast infeection" she is being treated for and is taking a prescription as of 10pm last night and 10 am and 10pm today. At or about 930am she felt ill and laid down. Got up later and had her morning cup of tea. When I was back later she was lying down in the guest bedroom, hot with fever and felt nauseous and weak and said her bones were aching all over. I made her some black tea and toast. Later At her request I made some green tea which she finished but she continues to have aching bones and nausea as the day has gone on. I have continued to offer her something to eat or drink like ginger ale and toast (didn't eat but half of slice or finish tea in early afternoon). She has drunk some more ginger ale. Earlier she asked to go to ER and I noted that your symptoms are too much like a virus or flu like. After more ginger ale a hour ago she took her 10pm pill for the infection, and had a burp which said made her temporarily feel better. She is finally sleeping again. What should I do? Is this a 24 hour thing?
Has symptoms of fever, aching bones, and nausea. Also has a bladder infection which she is taking NITROFURANTOIN MONO-MCR 100MG, twice a day for 7 days, started Wed. Night and has taken 3 pills so far, plus tea, ginger ale, and the 2 aspirins twice.

Brief Answer:
Possible acute viral infection onset/nitrofurantoin side effect to rule out

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

I have gone through the history of your wife and understood your concern.

1. Her symptoms of:
- fever
- aching bones
- nausea

are indicating a possible acute viral infection with gastrointestinal affection (nausea).

Get her rest more, keep giving fluids (water with oral rehydration salt, tea, chicken soups, etc.); give her over the counter anti-inflammatory meds like paracetamol, ibuprofen or mephenamic acid to relieve the pain and fever. She can also continue taking aspirin too.

2. You are also mentioning that she started Nitrofurantoin on Wednesday to treat her urinary tract infection. One of its side effects include upset stomach (nausea) and body aches with fever.

If she will not be fine within the next 24 hours, I advise to stop Nitrofurantoin, and report this side effect to her doctor.

Hope this helps. Wish fast recovery.
