What Causes Fever In Children?
Question: Hi doctor, my son is 1 year 5 months old. Weighs around 13 kgs. He is suffering from fever since wednesday. Every 7 hrs there is abt 99.5 to 100.5 temp. Giving him fepanil 8ml. Temperature is coming down but rising again. He is active only, little sluggish. Diet intake is ok. Is it fine, normal fever symptoms? Can we wait fir another day ir need to take him to doc? Any other medicine that you suggest? Planning to give him boiled rawmango juice added with sugar a little bit during the day today, is it sunstroke symptom?pls advice. Thank you very much.

Being a parent myself, I understnd your concern and apprehension.
Fever is not a disease , but is a symptom of underlying disease. The most common cause for fever in babies is Infection. Infection could be of any system.
As you mentioned there are no other symptoms. Its more likely to be non specific Viral infection. ( I hope he has no respiratory symptoms like cough, running nose: No gastrointestinal symptoms like loose stools: and no urinary complaints like excessive crying while passing Urine).
All that is required now is control of fever and to maintain hydration & nutrition. Dehydration will aggravate fever, so maintain good intake of fluids. You can definitely give raw XXXXXXX juice and whatever suites the taste bud of your baby.
If the baby is accepting feeds well , sleeps well after feeds and no other symptoms then you can definitely wait. It is definitely not heat stroke, heat stroke causes Hyperthermia: The temperature will not come down unless appropriate steps are taken like whole body tepid sponging. The rise in temperature will not respond to antipyretics(Fepanil).
