What Causes Fever And Headache After A Dental Work In A Diabetic?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I had a root canal over a month ago (June 14th). It got infected and I took antibiotics for a week. I am diabetic also. The antibiotics helped the tooth but the infection spread to my sinuses. My dentist and I decided not to put me back on antibiotics and let it heal on its own. Today, I have a 99 fever and still have a headache and puss draining from my upper jaw. Should I go back on antibiotics at this point?

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics, re-treatment of tooth..

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and noted the medical history of Diabetes and Dental history of Root Canal Treated tooth that got infected along with infection reaching the sinuses..
Presently having fever, pus discharge from Upper jaw and headache..

Well, it seems that the root canal treatment has failed and the tooth is severely re-infected leading to pus discharge and other symptoms..

Yes, you need to take antibiotics presently but it will along be not enough..
Get the tooth re-treated with root canal treatment..
Also as of now take a combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen to reduce fever and pain.
For sinuses do steam inhalation and use decongestant nasal spray..

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards.
