default
Posted on Fri, 4 Jul 2014
Question: have been feeling my pulse in my neck while sitting still. I first noticed this three weeks ago while laying down and now it's more prevalent. I notice it when I am sitting now as well. I feel like I'm rocking back and forth. My neck on the sides feel swollen as well. I have a history of svt. I have been seeing a cardiologist regularly. I have had a dozen ekg's over the past few months. Echo, stress test, nuclear stress test, and holder monitor and all have come back fine as well as an ultrasound of the carartoid arteries in my neck. Just curious about the pulse thing in my neck..

Brief answer....a normal phenomenon with many people.
Detailed answer..
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Feeling of pulse in your neck is generally a normal phenomenon with many people.
It is because this pulsation Feeling is due to the forceful passing of blood through the carotid artery in neck and which is a big artery.
Sometimes such pulsations could be because of some blockage in your carotid arteries or could be due increased anxiety level in the person or may be hyperthyroidism or if a person is a smoker or taking more caffeine.
Since you have been examined by a cardiologist and subjected to various tests including Doppler of carotids, without revealing any abnormality, clearly shows that there is nothing wrong with your heart or your carotids.
Get yourself tested for hyperthyroidism.
See to it whether there is any anxiety or depression level in you.
Avoid smoking and caffeine,if any.
In absence of these factors,it can be safely presumed, that it is normal and nothing more than increased perception of neck pulse.
I hope it helps,However you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luckĀ
Thanks
