Brief Answer:
Inflammatory bowel disease

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns . it seems that your husband is suffering from an attack of inflammatory bowel disease which basically causes diarrhea, unintended weight loss, loss of apetite, abdominal pain and cramps and extreme fatigue.
The diagnosis is confirmed with colonoscopy . Mild cases are treated with symptomatic treatment as an antidiarrheal as imoduim and an anti inflammatory as sulfasalazine
Severe cases are treated with corticosteroids as solupred 50 mg once daily and immunosuppressive agents as imuran.
cough could be due to a viral chest infection or allergy and should be treated with a cough suppressant as dextromethorphan .. if cough is with phelgm then you should add an expectorant as Mucinex . Also he should make sure he drinks enough water to prevent mucus from getting thick. I hope I answered your question.
