What Causes Extreme Painful Hand With Normal X Ray After Injury?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: Hand injury while punching heavy bag. Felt a painful pop in back of hand with pain that shot up that forearm. I have been seen at walk in clinic. X-ray was negative, so they ruled it as a sprain. Now 4 weeks later I still sometimes have extreme pain if I move my hand a certain way. Is this normal for a sprain or should I see my GP for further evaluation?

Brief Answer:
Anti inflammatory medicines will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, it seems that you might be having a soft tissue injury.

It sometimes take few days to weeks for complete healing.
You can take painkiller like Ibuprofen twice daily after meals along with an antacid and serratipeptidase for relief.

Hot fomentation, physiotherapy and application of pain relieving gel locally will be helpful.

Avoid lifting heavy weights with that hand and also avoid punching till the inflammation is healed completely.

A clinical examination by an Orthopedic surgeon will be helpful in planning further medical management.

I hope this is helpful to you.
If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Regards. Thanks.
