What Causes Excessive Sweating?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Nov 2015
Question: My wife is 73 and in good health. She started a couple of months ago persisting frequently when the temperature in the house is comfortable. She has been taking clonidine 25mg prescribed at 2 tablets per day ( 1 morning and 1 evening) and metropolol 25 mg 1 in the morning and crestor 10mg 1 in the evening. Her blood pressure has been measuring at about 110/70 or a little lower at different times of the day during the day so she has quit taking the clonidine in the morning to see if it would make a difference in her blood pressure. Her blood pressure has been staying down without the morning clonidine. The persisting doesn't appear to be related to the medications but is of concern due to not knowing the cause.

Brief Answer:
Can you kindly explain what you mean by persisting?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what your wife is experiencing. The use of the word persisting is not typical and I will like to know what you mean by this. If persisting means she is complaining of high temperatures when others do not think so, then she might need to have her thyroid gland checked. This is because high levels of thyroid hormones is the most common cause of heat intolerance. This is done by measuring the blood TSH levels.

If the morning clonidine dose doesn't affect her blood pressure, I Will suggest that you talk with her doctor and consider reducing or stopping altogether this medication. Her blood pressure readings are also too low for someone being treated for hypertension.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. I hope to get the precise meaning of the word persisting if different from that above.
Brief Answer:
Let her get her TSH level evaluated!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is suggestive of thyroid disease. Please, get her thyroid hormone levels checked. I Wish you well.
