What Causes Excessive Sweating, Headache, Muscle Pain, Itchy Eyes And Hot Flashes?

Posted on Tue, 29 Dec 2015
Question: Hello,
Please give me advise what to do next.
I have stress during 2014 until now. End of July I felt some fever about 36.9-37.1( my normal body temp is 36.1 during stress time), night and day sweating, headache, muscle pain, feel like I have cold. This symptoms continue up to now with some changes, no night sweating, temp jumps from 36.4 ( morning) to 36.7( evening), going up and down without medication, sometimes feel like flush, hot cheeks, eyes, head, very hot hands. I feel this temp like flue symptoms with muscle pain, wet and itchy eyes, headache etc. I had X ray twice, no findings, spirotest-ok. I had flue or cold from September 08,2015 to September 14, 2015. It was not bacterial infection because all discharges from nose and caught was clear, running eyes, nose, caught, sneezing non stop. Full blood work was done on September 16, 2015. Everything is ok included ESR-14, except CRP-14.2 and progesterone-2.6
Aspirin does not change my temp, which make some people think that this temp is stress related.
Abdomen, pelvic and breast ultrasound was done in March 2015, ok.
Pap test and infection test done in April 2015, negative result.
CA-125 test done, result is normal.
I did not loose wait, appetite is ok.
But this temp jumping drives me crazy. 36.4, 36.7, 36.2,36.7...
I do not know to think. Can CRP evaluate because blood work was done almost during flue or cold?
I am 46, is it possible that temp jumps due to pre menopause?
I do not know what to do and what to check.
I wrote my questions, temp was changes 3 times :)
Please help.

Brief Answer:
Pre-menopause

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Thank you for trusting us in HCM with your question. I will answer your question up to my best knowledge.

After carefully reading your query and seeing you already did alot of tests to figure out what is going on and if there is any prominent causing factor It is good news that all tests were in normal range. From what you described and based on your age its safe to say that those temperature fluctuations and changes are hot flushes described often with pre-menopause.

Pre-menopause symptoms include hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, sweating, period irregularities fatigue vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse, lower sex drive, weight gain.

The age at which those symptoms start varies it can be late 30 but usually mid 40, the duration those can last also varies can be couple of months to up to couple of years until menopause happens meaning until ovaries stop releasing eggs.

Those symptoms happen due to lower estrogen levels secreted by the ovaries, to diagnose it a blood test of hormonal level of estrogen, FSH, LH levels it can vary from one point to another so a repetition and registering fluctuations is needed.

How to deal with it?
taking low dose birth control pills for short period can relief hot flushes but those should be only taken after you consult with your gynecologist. Stress relieving factors like sports, more sleep, healthy diet, avoid alcohol or smoking all can help with the symptoms.

Finally please consult with your gynecologist regarding your symptoms.

I hope this helped, If you do any tests and need me to check them please feel free in contacting me with further questions and tests results.

Kind regards,
Dr. Nazzal

Thank you for your reply.
I checked the hormones as well. All are ok. Except, progesterone was low.
Estrogen, FSH, LH were ok
I read about hot flushes, however, they last 2-3 minutes, but my temp evaluates for half hour or more with muscle pain and other cold symptoms.
do you think that it is pre menopause? My periods come on time, no chages
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome back.

As I said before duration of the attack varies and can last up to one hour.

Hormonal fluctuations may make detection of abnormalities hard. A diary of hormonal levels can help.

The most common symptom is hot flushes other physical changes can happen later on. It is important to understand that it is a normal process and it is very important that you get the right counseling regarding what to expect.

To lower the severity of the hot flushes the following treatments are your options:
1. hormonal based (birth control pills) but you need to consult with your gynecologist before taking them to role out possible interactions that might lead to side effects of taking the pill like blood coagulation problems, and breast cancer check up.
2. non hormonal based antidepressants can help
3. home remedies healthy diet, reduce smoking if you smoke, reduce alcohol intake if you drink and work out or do some yoga stretching exercises.

I do strongly think it is pre menopause. I do understand that those symptoms can be very annoying, and it is a very common problem and is annoying to many ladies.

Nevertheless as it seems you do feel it can be something else since I read previous posts and other physicians agreed to suggest its menopause what can cause low grade fever fluctuations and night sweats are the following:
1. Regular causes of fever ( infections, connective tissue problems, cancer) which you did most of the tests for.
2. Menopause
3. Hyperthyroid test TSH T3 T4
4. Anxiety
5. Nocturnal hypoglycemia( diabetics) please check your accumulated sugar levels.
6. Obstructive sleep anpea
7. Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. (increases acidity in stomach)
8. Endometriosis (gynecological in origin).
9. drugs or medicine.

It can be possible that your diabetes medicine(metformin derived) is causing those symptoms as a side effect of strictly controlling your sugar levels causing low sugar level. Consult with your endocrinologist or monitoring doctor with regards to this possibility.

Well I advise you pay your gynecologist a visit to do proper physical examination.

Stay in good health.

Kind regards,
Dr. Nazzal

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Glad to hear that you booked an appointment with your gynecologist.

C-reactive protein (CRP) level does not provide any specifics about the inflammatory process going on in the body. flu can lead to CRP elevation.

Best regards,
Dr. Nazzal
