Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: Hi Doctor
My wife is 26-27 weeks pregnant and we found that her SGPT and SGOT are on the higher side based on the blood test recently done. Below are the details

SGOT(AST) : 65
SGPT(ALT): 110

Please let me know what can be the possible reasons ,implications and precautions to be taken. We will be visiting the concerned gynaecologist soon but also thought of checking your opinion as well.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Brief Answer:
No active treatment needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Yes the enzyme levels are definitely raised a little but this much elevation needs no active treatment and have no implication on the mother or baby.
So in case she has no symptoms like nausea, vomiting, pain abdomen itching on palms and soles or jaundice then nothing to worry and just relax.
In case you have any other questions about it, I will be glad to answer.
Regards
Dr Manisha
