What Causes Dry Mouth And Eyes After Having Lisinopril?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Mar 2015
Question: I am white female 47 yo. I have interstitial cystitis and it has been in remission for several years and I no longer take any medication to control it, I have hypothyroidism and take 0.05 mg daily. I also have ringing in my ears that comes and goes. And I have exercise induced asthma. I am obese and my fasting blood glucose was 74 HbA1c was 6. I take lisinopril for hypertension. I have had increasing dry mouth and eyes for a year before I started the lisinopril. I had a negative ANA test. I am concerned I have sjogren's syndrome but my Dr. leans more towards DM as causing the problems.

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

Well The symptoms of dry eyes and dry mouth are quite a common symptom and can be present in a lot of conditions , with diabetes being the next common. Even drugs ( like antidepressants) can cause this condition. But with fasting glucose as 74, i am not sure how much of diabetes you have.Is the blood sugar 74 due to medications or without it?

I would like to ask a few more queries, before i can guide you further

1. Do you experience any joint pains along with dry eyes or dry mouth

2. ANy history of swelling in the parotid glands?

3. Any history of weight loss or appetite loss?

4. Did you ever get Schrimmers Test done?

5. Any history of swelling of the lymph nodes anywhere in the body

6. Do you experience lot of fatigue?

7. Did you get any blood tests done, which checked for your routine blood counts and ESR?

Sjogrens syndrome can still be present even if ANA is negative, especially when there are no symptoms in the body and is restricted to only salivary and lacrimal glands. The confirmation is then done by a salivary gland biopsy.

Do let me know these queries. Would do my best to guide you in the right direction
