default
Posted on Thu, 20 Apr 2017
Question: went to bed after rubbing a cream muscle relaxer on my husband's back, I wore gloves. when I woke up this morning my mouth was dry like never before I felt a lump in my throat. I drank water to get it to go down, but after about 8 oz decided that if it did go down I might choke.I am able to breath and swallow. throat is still dry, but now like upon waking.

Brief Answer:
allergic reaction?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

it sounds like an allergic reaction. I can't say whether it's the cream or something else and - of course - I can't be absolutely certain about the diagnosis of allergy but it sounds likely. The good news is that it doesn't seem to evolve into something worse. The bad news is that a lump in the throat is potentially dangerous and has to be dealt with immediately.

I suggest visiting either your primary care physician or an ENT specialist for assessment of your throat. If it's an allergic reaction indeed then immediate treatment with an antihistamine would be recommended.
The doctor should be able to distinguish between various potential causes like a respiratory tract infection, an allergic reaction or other causes of throat irritation.

Kind Regards!
