Question: My son went to daycare Thursday and Friday just gone - Sat he developed a blotchy rash on his tummy, gave him kids Claratyne, eased the rash but he has a terribly dry sounding cough and a runny nose, he has been immunised for measles - could he still get measles?? If so, what treatment do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Less likely measles, most likely an upper airway symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Dry cough and runny nose with a tummy rash self resolving with history of measles vaccination is unlikely to be the measles. A patient may still get the measles though but this case is unlikely. Even if it is measles the kid needs symptomatic monitoring and fluids and electrolytes care to prevent rehydration. One major symptom of measles is mouth ulcers and a baby cant feed.

Your baby is likely suffering from an airway infection that causing dry cough and runny nose as weather these days favour such symptoms quite often in children. Recent cold and flu may have led to these symptoms. Give the baby symptomatic treatment for cough and runny nose and keep the baby well fed and rehydrate. Keep checking the temperatures and make sure the baby get vitamin A dose prophylactically.

I hope it helps. take good care of your baby and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Brief Answer:
antibiotics can wait

Usually air way infection in children are viral. There may be sure imposed bacterial infections but that shows up with fever of at least 102. I would say wait and see for the antibiotics . If fever start showing up the baby should be given antibiotic only then.
And the rash I forgot to mention is harmless and self resolving already so that makes it probably hives / urticaria. Antihistamines the baby it's already on. Get the baby dewormed as some times it may be the cutaneous manifestation of it intestinal worms which are very commonly seen in children.
Nutshell Wait AND see for Antibiotics and Symptomatic Treatment till Then.

Take care.
