Brief Answer:
You can go ahead with the surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM!

This is Dr. Sridhar and I shall be answering your question.

The symptoms that you have mentioned are unlikely to be due to a compressed nerve. These symptoms (sleepy, weak and tired) will not pose a problem for the surgery by themselves. However, these symptoms are often associated with few conditions (explained below) which need attention before you are operated.

If I were your treating surgeon, I'd ensure a blood test to find out your Hemoglobin level. Weakness and tiredness are generally associated with a condition called Anemia (decreased hemoglobin level). If your hemoglobin level is too low, it is necessary to increase it before you can be operated.

Also, these symptoms can also be possible due to low thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism). I'd also like to get your thyroid levels investigated.

It is also necessary to ensure that you don't suffer from any heart condition.

Apart from these, it's unlikely that any other condition might be there which will have an effect on your surgery. Once these conditions are rules out, you may go ahead with your spine surgery.

Hope your query is solved. Feel free to ask i you have any doubt.

If you are satisfied, you may close the discussion and rate my answer.

Wish you good health.

With regards,
Dr. Sridhar
