What Causes Dizziness And Blood In Stool Along With Fever?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Mar 2015
Question: Having dizziness and fever, and now blood in stool. Should I be concerned? The blood is not dark or congealed, just bright red. I'm not feeling well and have had stiff and achey muscles, and inflamed sinuses. I have been taking quite a bit of paracetamol, neurofen, and codine. Would these drugs cause the blood in stool?

Brief Answer:
nurofen possibly

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Nurofen can be associated with a risk of bleeding. This family of medications can potentially affect the platelets (involved in clotting) and therefore increase the risk of bleeding.

This bleeding complication is more likely in older age groups or persons with bleeding disorders or using other medications that can affect clotting.

Blood in the stool can occur as a result of: (1)infection such as diarrhea/vomiting
(2)hemorrhoids- this is normally bright red and seen on wiping
(3)inflammatory bowel disease
(4)mass in the colon
(5)diverticular disease- presence of 'outpockets' in colon

The presence of dizziness, fever, muscle aches and sinuses would imply an infection of the respiratory tract.
This should not cause blood in the stool.

Though the nurofen could have played a part in the blood in the stool , it would be better to see your doctor for an assessment. At your age, it is not likely to be due to a serious condition but you should still consider assessment.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
