Question: My 75 year old mother won't get out of bed, won't shower or do simple chores like laundry.

There may certainly be a component of depression or dementia going on here.

A geriatrician would be the best person to provide a comprehensive evaluation. Other disorders including anemia or thyroid dysfunction can present like this.

I would try to convince her to visit with the geriatrician for a good evaluation and possibly some lab tests to help identify the underlying problem.
