What Causes Discomfort In The Leg After Lifting Heavy Weights?

Posted on Wed, 26 Oct 2016
Question: Hello,

My name is XXXXXXX
I am a 22 year old male, 5"9, 175lbs, type 1 diabetic.
I currently do not have any diagnosed complications related to my diabetes. my only notable medical history is for a hernia operation when I was around 3 years old.

about 10 days or so ago I assisted a friend in some light construction work. this work involved lifting between 30 and 50 pounds above my head.

for the past 7 to 8 days I've noticed a strange sensation in my right leg, and right arm.

the feeling can best be described as a sort of "weak" feeling in my leg, and a "tired" feeling in my arm.
My first thought was that I probably over exerted myself or pinched a nerve, etc...
I am able to support my full body weight on my right leg, I have a full range of motion and no pain to speak of.

I experienced a similar episode of this "weak" feeling a couple of years ago. I did see a Dr about it, and I was not diagnosed with anything nor given any medication. the weak feeling wore off after about 3 weeks.

no family history of MS, PD. or other neurological / nerve disease.

what might be causing this? can I write it off to being related to lifting heavy weight above my head or should I be more concerned?

Brief Answer:
Get examined by a neurologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Unilateral symptoms involving upper and lower limbs may be due to brain involvement or less likely spine involvement.
You need to visit a neurologist for detailed examination and evaluation of weakness.
Only feeling of weakness with no objective weakness on examination may be non specific.
Examination is required before advising any investigation.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
