What Causes Difficulty In Urinating With Back Pain In An Elderly Person?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jan 2017
Question: I am 67 yrs. old, 2 weeks ago I over extended my knee ligaments on right knee. ACL I think. I read about how to help it, cold on and off, keep straight, rest, take Ibuprofen for pain. , 600mg. every 6 hrs. the first week, then 600mg. 2times a day as it was easier to walk. It worked well I am walking pretty good and it is getting better each day. BUT, suddenly I am having problems urinating. . . not getting a full empty bladder with some pain in my back on the left side deep inside not my spine. And it is keeping me awake because of the pain and urinating every 1 hour or so. I do not take any medications of any sort, and I am wondering if it could be bladder or kidneys, and how can I relieve the constant deep pain. I will keep reading more items until we talk again. Thanks Don Lowe

Brief Answer:
SEEMS LIKE A KIDNEY STONE

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr Don,

Thank you for posting the query.

I have gone through your medical history in detail.

The constant deep pain that you are experiencing in your back and the urinary complaints seem to be due to a renal calculus. The calculus may be in the kidney or the proximal ureter.

Feeling of incomplete evacuation of bladder can also be due to an enlarged prostate.

The medicines that you have been taking for knee pain do not seem to be causing these symptoms and both seem to be unrelated.

I suggest you to get a Ultrasonography of the abdomen to rule out renal stone and prostate enlargement.

Once you get it done,do let me know the results so that i can guide you further.

Till then you can take antispasmodic medicines like meftal spas or cyclopam to relieve the constant aching pain.

Avoid drinking more water after 5 pm to avoid sleep disturbances during night hours.

I hope the answer was useful.

Thank you.

Best regards.
