What Causes Difficult In Focusing With Contact Lenses?

default
Posted on Sat, 2 Aug 2014
Question: Hello, I am a healthy 43 year old nearsighted female who wears contacts and I have astigmatism in both eyes I have noticed my eyes are very slow to focus when trying to focus from reading something up close to looking far away. I understand this can be accomodation weakness from aging. I have also noticed that is worsens as the days goes on and also makes me dizzy. The dizziness also worsens as the day goes on and especially noticeable when my eyes are trying to focus. I have not had an eye exam in 2.5 years, so I will be scheduling that next week. My question is can accomodation cause dizziness? I am not a diabetic and I have normal BP. I am also an RN, so have tried to do a lot of research on this. I'm just baffled at how sensitive I am being with the accomodation part. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Yes accommodation can cause dizziness.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to health care magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

It seems from the history that you are having refractive error in the form of astigmatism and you are wearing contact lenses for correction.
The difficulty in focusing is because of decreased accommodation and this is probably because of age related presbyopia.
This requires correction by the use of near addition glasses.
This can cause dizziness as you try to accommodate and see. Hence correction of your near vision should correct your dizziness also.
Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for correction of near vision.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
