What Causes Diarrhea And Burping After Having Pizza Along With Alcohol?

Posted on Fri, 18 Sep 2015
Question: I have had watery diarrhea accompanied by burping with a rotten egg aftertaste and I don't know what to do about it. I have not had any cramping in my stomach nor have I had any nausea. But my stomach continues to grumble on a consistent basis. And even though I still have an appetite, I am afraid to eat anything because of what will come afterward.

This is the very first time that this has happened to me. And I would like to know the cause of it.

Last Saturday I had ordred a pizza at home and had several beers along with my meal. However, later that evening, I didn't necessarily have any nausea, but my bowel movement was nothing but a profuse amount of watery diarrhea.

The following morning I noticed that my burps were of a foul smell, like rotten eggs. And my stomach was growling uncontrollably.

Even though, my bowel movement that day was not as long as the first time, it was still watery.
And the following day, my bowel movement was again not too long, but watery. And I continue to have these smelly burps. However, I was able to sustain a good size meal for practically the entire day, before finally having to relent.

Is there anything that I can take or do to alleviate this? Or is this some form of parasite that I just have to wait it out?

Thank you,

Brief Answer:
It is infection of the gastrointestinal tract. Yes, you need treatment!

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

You had a Pizza that was unhygienic or improperly cooked. That became the reason for the gastroenteritis (infection) and needs proper treatment.

If I was your treating physician I would have prescribed you with Rifaximin antibiotic class of medicine if not allergic to.
Plus Gaviscon syrup and Omeprazole.
If diarrhea still bothering, take Imodium.
If fever, you may take Tylenol too.

Oral Rehydration Solution is needed to revitalize your body. This treatment will take you away from all the bad symptoms you have got right now.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.

Thank you so much for your response Dr. Hanif.

However, it is very difficult for me to see the doctor due to my work schedule. This is one of the reasons why I am consulting with you online.

Is there anything I can take that is over the counter for right now? Also, what foods and drinks should I stay away from?

Finally, these burps with that foul smell are really bothering me. Is there anything I can take right now to remedy this without a prescription? And how long does something like this normally persist?

Thank you so much,
