What Causes Delay In Period While Suffering From Flu?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: I have not been keeping well for the last 3 days due to common cold and flu. I have been taking the required medication. My period is due on the 17th of October and it hasn't started as yet. I am a married woman. I am quite confident that myself and my spouse have not attempted for chances of pregnancy. Can I please understand the cause for delay in my period. Can the medication for common cold have an effect on the menstrual cycle for few days . My periodic cycle is mostly regular and I haven't been facing any irregularities over the last few months. I request you to kindly clarify me on the reason that could be most likely for delay in my period. Thank you

Brief Answer:
delayed menses

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
It is often normal to experience a delay in cycles by a few days especially when you are suffering from flu or common cold or fever or any infection. This amounts to physical stress and this leads to reproductive hormonal imbalances which can causally delay menses. If you are sure that you are not pregnant then you may just wait for a week more and your menses shall return naturally.
