What Causes Declined Sense Of Taste, Uncontrolled Movements And Weakness?

default

Question: Been feeling very crummy the past month. Feeling incredibly stressed and lots of anxiety. Not much of an appetite, so I've had to force food/liquids down. Nothing seems remotely appetizing. Sense of taste has declined so everything tastes very bland and not much flavor. Headaches and a sense of weakness have been occurring almost everyday. Sleep is all over the place, sometimes go all night with no sleep or sleep during the day instead of when I lay down at night. Five days ago I had a bout of painful spasms (like something was exploding) around my groin/rectum. It lasted about five minutes and was very tender afterwords. Then I got my period soon after which was very unusual because it was about 2-3 weeks early. This happened immediately after I woke up from a sleep paralysis. The next day I didn't get great sleep but had to be up for something, ended up waking up and falling asleep 3 separate times. I got up and experienced a very unusual state. I felt disconnected with my surroundings as well as my body, it felt as if I was just watching from the side. I could walk but kept running into things and being clumsy. I was not aware of my body movements but could control them. All I felt was a overall sensitive of numbness/tingly but was also euphoric. It felt like I was an floating aura but couldn't feel my body. I walked around for a while and even took a shower but it was very difficult to comprehend what was going on or even think about what was going on. My speech was minimal and felt very foreign when trying to speak, I could still manage to send a few texts though. It was like I was observing something unreal, as I didn't have the same emotions I usually do. This passed after a few hours and a nap but still felt out of it and uncomfortable. I'm not sure what this was, was it a partial seizure, was it stress, was it my recent lack of nutrition/hydration? For a couple days after I also have been having more headaches then usual, had a metallic taste in my mouth so I couldn't even taste food, and my vision was a bit hazy. I also take xanax when needed and am on around 30 mg of adderall a day. The couple of days I did not take it because of the constant nausea and not wanting to eat but it didn't help much. Sorry for the lengthy question, I've just been feeling very ill the past month and now a few weird things have happened in the last week so would just like peace of mind.

Brief Answer:
Seizures should be excluded.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Taste disturbances, unreal feeling of self, uncontrolled movements could have as underlying cause complex partial seizures, that needs a careful evaluation.

Seizures can be triggered by nutrition/ blood electrolytes deficiency also.

In my opinion, you can discuss with your treating Doctor the possibility of partial seizures evaluation clinically and with brain electrophysiology study (EEG), and have blood electrolytes measured.

If this partial seizures evaluation shows no such cause of your symptoms, then they are related to relapsing of depressive disorder and incorrect intake of Adderall that may justify period disturbance, weird feeling and euphoria.

To recapitulate: in my opinion there is need to check for/ rule out partial seizures and after that a Adderall and Xanax correct regimen together with healthy feeding should be constituted in order to give you needed peace.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
