What Causes Dark Urine While On Toprol XL And Lopressor?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Sep 2016
Question: I just started taking Toprol XL 25 mg a few days ago. I had been taking Lopressor (Metropolol) 25 mg twice a day for the past year, and this was just changed to once a day, and the medication was changed to Toprol (Metroplol Succinate). I feel just fine, but yesterday I noticed that my urine was much darker, and I'm just wondering if that could be from the change in medication. I've done nothing else different, and again, I feel fine. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms don't seem to be related to your therapy changes.

Dark urine can be related to an infection, dehydration which leads to concentrated urine or some types of food, which are known to color the urine.

For this reason, if the problem persists, I recommend performing an urine analysis.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
