What Causes Dark Patch In Vagina After A Fungal Infection?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: I had fungal infection over a year ago in my pubic area. After it healed, I thought the darkened skin would lighten over time but it didn't. The area looks like a patchwork of dark and light skin now and part of the vagina looks really rotten. Is there any way at all to return it to normal? Would any medicine work or some surgery is required? If so, please help.

Brief Answer:
To rule out persistent infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms,

Inadequately treated or persistent fungal infection of groin can cause patchy hyperpigmentation of skin folds. It occurs due to chronic inflammation associated with infection causing excessive recruitment of melanocytes.

As you have mentioned the vagina is still rotten looking, it is very important to rule out persisting infection of the area before starting the treatment for reducing the hyper pigmentation. I would suggest you to get a clinical assessment from Dermatologist. Following which local scrubbing of the area with fresh lemon for 5 to 10 minutes and following by taking bath . After bath local application of Azelaic acid cream will be helpful.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
