What Causes Creamy White Vaginal Discharge?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: Hello,
I am a registered nurse and I think I may know the answer to my question but just want to verify what I am thinking. I am a large woman and I get a milky white discharge (what I think is yeast) in the creases of my thigh/groin area. It is always warm, dark and moist in that area and because I am obese. The substance can be scraped off and when I shower, I put on powder that is used for fungus/athletes foot, which does help. However if I do not shower daily, the substance will return. Am I on the right track that this is probably yeast?

Brief Answer:
Yeast or build up of sebaceous material and shed skin.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Your thinking is logical - it may be yeast, but it may also be an accumulation of material from sebaceous glands, moisture, and shed skin cells. This can accumulate in skin folds as well.

You find the anti fungal powder seems to help, but is it possible that it's the act of showering that is doing the job instead?

Usually yeast overgrowth is kind of itchy - but not always.

You can try applying an anti yeast cream such as clotrimazole, for 7 days, to see if it makes it resolve. If it doesn't, I would lean more towards that it is a build up of sebum and skin.

If you don't want to shower daily (it's winter after all!), using a regular soap and warm wash cloth on the area daily may be helpful. Be sure to dry the skin well.

I hope this helps. Sorry I can't say definitively - but I think it's one of the two possibilities.
