What Causes Constant Seizures?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jun 2016
Question: I had temporal lobe seizures for 4 years, feeling weird and off much of the time. I didn't seek help because I thought it was mental and it scared me. They were seizures and could have been treated. I had all the symptoms (smell, aura). The feelings stopped suddenly, it seemed, and left what feels like horrible brain damage. I don't have emotion, hunger and I actually feel like a freak inside. It feels like there is a hole in my head. It's like I am a dead person walking around in a live body. Is there any help available? Please help if you can. Exactly what kind of damage can constant seizures do (neuronal?).

Brief Answer:
Seizures may damage neurons and brain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

The matter if brain damage results in seizures and seizures result in brain (neuronal) damage is still under investigation.

Single, partial, rare seizures usually don't cause any brain damage, repeated and complex ones are four to cause such damage.

Since your seizures were not treated, it is probably some brain (neuronal) damage and, regarding to your symptoms, frontal lobe(s) are damaged.

About improvement, it is necessary to control seizures with antiepileptic drugs and counseling with a Psychologist also.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

Is there a way to repair the damage? It feels quite severe. Would it show up on a test?

Brief Answer:
Get tested further.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Neuropsychological tests are necessary to understand better the areas of brain damaged and extension.

Electroencephalography is one of the tests that may give further information about your condition.

As I said before, if there is still abnormal electric brain activity (seizures), treatment should be started.

Hope I helped you.

Greetings.
