Question: Hello I tripped and hit my head when I was drinking with friends and have had a headache that hasn't gone away... I took nap the following day after working all day and was confused for about 5 minutes... I was scared so I was about to go to the Er but then changed my mind.. I have a small goose egg right above and close to my temple.. What should I do?

I am so sorry to hear about this accident and the terrible headaches that you have reported. This is not totally unexpected after hitting the head. From all the information you have provided, there is no reason to panic at this time.

Generally, I don't like patients to stay on Ibuprofen because of its side effects. I will recommend you stop it and use tylenol. Take 1000mg every 8hours for at least 2days before stopping. When it is taken at irregular intervals, it will not correctly control your pain.

In all, no recommended ER visit at this time. Tylenol and rest will resolve this problem fully.
