Brief Answer:
Temporal arteritis, migraine, See Dr

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

It might be important to know if this is the first time you are experiencing these symptoms or not. The feeling of needles and pins , is it only on the head region or it affects other areas of the body? The mode of onset, whether abrupt or gradual could be important to be noted during the evaluation process.

There are two main common conditions that affect females , of about your age, with symptoms that affect only one side of the head. These are mainly migraine and Temporal arteritis. For migraine, other signs like nausea, drilling and headache could be important to note. Temporal arteritis will present with signs of malaise, unilateral headaches and eye ache or visual disturbances. Hot sweats that you experience are compatible with temporal arteritis. An erythrocyte sedimentation rate if raised is suggestive of this condition, which responds very well to steroids like prednisolone.
In the absence of pain (headache), it is important for the head to be examined.

Pins all over could be a sign of a peripheral nerve problem. It is important to note if you have ever had herpes infections before or not. A history of diabetes is also important to be noted. It might be important to clearly distinguish the feeling of pins from itches. Lack of certain Vitamins could lead to such a condition, especially of the B complex. Vitamin B complex supplementation could be helpful. Filarial worms could give icthes, and not a pin like feeling.

A complete review from your family doctor is important. Kind regards

Dr Bain
