What Causes Clear Liquid Filled Blisters On The Back?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: My daughter just showed me this 2 inch clear liquid filled blisters on her back. Can it be a staff infection or myrsa. She says it hurts and has been there for about 3 weeks and is getting bigger. To me it would look like a puffy burn with fluid in it. The skin under the liquid blister is slightly red with a litte greenish coloring around edges

Brief Answer:
Could you be so kind as to attach an image of the affected region? Thx

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. We have an option of attaching images to our discussion, so if you are comfortable with the same then please do take a clear image of the affected region with permission from your daughter and attach it to this discussion or email it to me at:

YYYY@YYYY

and please do mention "ATTN: Dr. Shoaib Khan" in the subject line, so it can be directed to me.

Without a clear image for now, the options can be the following the an order of possibility:

1. Folliculitis or furuncle or carbuncle: These conditions occur due to friction from clothing, bra strap, poor hygiene, waxing or hair removal from the back region, etc. They usually start with just a boil lie appearance and if not taken care of well enough can result in getting infected as well. From the description provided by you ma'am, if this is the diagnosis then it has most certainly been infected as well and will require either only antibiotic coverage or antibiotic coverage and incision and drainage (minor surgical procedure)

2. Dormant chicken pox (shingles) virus in the body: If your daughter has had chicken pox in the past, then the virus can remain dormant in her body for her entire life and at times appear with blisters around the body, especially the back region

3. Dermatitis herpetiformis: But usually presents with numerous blisters

I look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully being able to visually examine the affected region to provide you with a way forward.

Best wishes.
