What Causes Clear Fluid Discharge From Penis After Taking Steroids?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 May 2014
Question: Hi, I took steroids for 11 weeks. I later found out they had been watered down. Also my sex life is pathetic , 5 times in 12 months. During the 12months I had unprotected sex once. I noticed something was wrong . I had a clear gooey substance coming from my penis. So I got a STI test done, I had to take Zithromax for my medication. Now since the clear gooey substance has only slowed and not completely gone away, is this a delayed reaction or should I take more Zithromax? Or is this likely to be a combination of the STI and the steroids that had been tampered with?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day.
How old are you?
What was the indication for steroid? Body building or as a part of treatment? Which steroid and what dose?

Zithromax is an effective antibiotic for STI and since there is no pain and no pus coming out, it is unlikely to be a persistence of infection. The clear fluid is likey a prostate or similar secretions. Most people get this when they are sexually excited and just before ejaculation. It may be better too test and confirm.
However, the steroid is unlikely to have contributed to your symptom.

Regarding your sex life, how is your libido? Are you able to penetrate well and maintain the erection till orgasm? Are you on any other pills or suffer from any disease? Alcohol/smoking? How is your body hair and your shaving frequency? Any headaches?

These are important questions which will help us to come to a diagnosis.

Regards
Binu

Hi im 34. The steroid was for body building. It was called sustegon 250, i was taking 3 ml over 7 days, for first 7 weeks, ( mon wed fri ) then 6ml over 7 days ( mon wed fri ) for last 4 weeks. In regards to my libido, i penertrate deep and can last for up to 5-10 minutes and yes i am very capable of holding the erection to orgasm When i was younger 35-50 minutes wasnt hard. Im fit and I exercise daily. I dont smoke. I dont drink, and if i did drink i would only have one. My shaving is every 3-4 days or earlier depending on where or what im doing. No headaches. I do think about sex slot, and its alot lately because theres been so little.

Hello,
Your answers rules out any major hormonal disorder.
However, you have used synthetic testosterone for body building before. This causes temporary shut down of body's natural production of testosterone for some period of time as the pituitary gland hormone production ( LH and FSH) will be suppressed. ( LH hormone produced in pituitary is required for your testes to make Testosterone). Probably this is causing your sex failure. But don't worry, it will come back to normal over a period of time, provided you don't use testosterone or any other steroids in the interim.

You may confirm this by checking a fasting ( between 7 to 9 am) serum Testosterone , LH ( leuteinizing hormone) + fasting blood glucose blood tests. Please write to me with the reports.

Hi so with all you have told me, and with out getting the blood glucose blood test done as i work away from home for a living, could you hyperthetically assume, that possibly i am low in cortisol ??
So if that is correct, what medication could i buy,
( or vitamin ) to bring it back to normal ?
And if it isnt any of what i have mentioned, what perscription would i need assuming you thought it was something else that was imbalanced considering what you have told me so far?

Brief Answer:
Hello

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I do understand the difficulty of getting the blood tests as you are living away from home.

Now cortisol is a totally different steroid hormone . ( it is different from testosterone) . If you have low cortisol, you may experience tiredness, low blood pressure, and occasionally giddiness on standing up.
Unfortunately, it is dangerous to buy any of these medicines with out blood tests. That can have serious consequences.

You may need a prescription for testosterone if the blood levels are low.

There is no harm in taking a vitamin, however, vitamins may not make any difference in your hormone levels.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Testosterone comes as patches, gel, tablets and injections. The dose used in body building is quite high, where as the dose used to restore sexual function is not that high.

Steroid hormones are a large family . They all derive from cholesterol.
( Testosterone, Estrogen, Progesterone, Cortisol, aldosterone, Vitamin D). All of them are steroid hormones. They have different functions in the body and one can not replace other. The dose and treatment is based on which hormone is deficient. However, when we refer to steroid in clinical practice, that refers to cortisol and it's derivatives.

You need a written prescription from GP or an Internist/Endocrinologist for obtaining these medicines. However, they will have to examine you and test you before prescription can be given.

Question 1 ) By not seeing a internist am i causing my testicles any damage
( i.e my sperm to have kids later )
Question 2 ) Would you highly suggest i see a GP to get my blood glucose blood test done and a internist afterwards to get a script for testosterone to correct what is deficient ?
Or will time fix this?
( i did some reading and it says your testicles may shrink & they may go soft due to your body not producing testosterone. So when i was on steriods, i noticed towards the end of the 11weeks my testicles where slightly smaller & softer than usual, its been almost 8 weeks & ive noticed there firming up again )
Question 3 )Is this a sign my body is fixing itself?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good evening.

Answers to your questions.
1) Not really. Testosterone when used in high dose can reduce sperm count. However, it will resume after few months of stopping the drug.

2) I would suggest you to see a GP if your sexual function doesn't improve to check for fasting glucose, Testosterone level , FSH and LH level. You may see an Internist/endocrinologist later if the testosterone level is low. But if you have only used them for 11 weeks, 99% of the time, it will recover by itself over next few months. ( if you don't use it again)

3) It could be. 90% of the bulk of testes is seminiferous tubules. When the FSH production in pituitary is shut down, your testes size can shrink, ( but usually happen on prolonged use). Once the pituitary gland start the production of FSH hormone in sufficient level, it stimulate the seminiferous tubule growth and ultimately the testes size will come back to normal. Yes, there is a fair chance that you will gain all those lost functions back. ( however, it is worth confirming the diagnosis by doing a fasting Testosterone, LH and FSH as I stated earlier).

Wish you good luck.

Regards
Binu

So after finding out all this information from you i still have the clear gooey stuff coming out of my penis, i know its not a STI as stated in early msg because ive been tested , and then i was given zithromax. So i was wondering is this something to do with premature adjaculation or is there something wrong with my testicles and is this common?

Good day.
As I mentioned earlier if it is clear fluid, you don't really have to worry much. Prostate and other secretions are clear and contain no or very few sperms. However only visual inspection or microscopic and laboratory examination of fluid can tell the real nature of fluid. Most men get this when sexually stimulated or before ejaculation. But if it is a continuous ooze, then it surely need to be investigated.
