Question: I have a chronic muscle spasm in my neck but xrays show no obvious cause. Can stress/excessive crying cause this or does it have to be due to injury?

Brief Answer:
Both injury and excessive stress can cause spasms.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Neck muscle spasms are more probably related to injury, poor posture, neck strain but may be related to anxiety / excessive stress,

If had any injuries or continuously use inappropriate posture, then this may be the cause of neck spasms.

If not a injury or bad posture cause then it may be related to stress.

Treatment consists on rest, stress control, correcting posture, firm pillow, paracetamol, soft neck collar for few days during the day, warm procedures on your neck.

If symptoms do not resolve in 2 to 3 weeks, then other causes ( cervical disc disease, cervical degenerative disease) should be assessed.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
