What Causes Calf Muscle Cramps Post Tibia Fibula Fracture Surgery?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: Hello,

I fractured my fibula last October and had surgery to repair it. For the last 2-3 months I have had twitches in my calf pretty consistently that are not painful at all, but they are starting to concern me. It is only in the leg where I had my injury. Do you know what could be causing it?

thank you

Brief Answer:
May be due to hyper excitability of muscles due to surgical injury.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Your calf muscle cramps may be due to hyper excitability of muscles due to surgical injury. Vitamin and trace elements deficiencies may also contribute to some extent. You are likely to benefitted by vitamin and trace elements supplements. You can determine your vitamin D and vitamin B12 levels. If found low you can take its supplements.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Thank you for the prompt response. Just to clarify - it is not cramps, it is more so just twitches like someone is pulling little chunks of my calf inward from inside my leg.

It is not painful at all, it is just annoying because it has gone on for so long now. Should I be concerned that it is something worse such as ALS?

thank you

Brief Answer:
I think it is unlikely to be ALS.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
I think it is due to hyperexitability and scarring of muscle due to operation. I think it not to be due to ALS but it is advisable to consult neurologist for clinical examination.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.
Everything else already discussed.
