What Causes Burning Sensation In The Chest Post Alcohol Consumption?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: Drinking alcohol on empty stomach led to burning in chest and blackout for about 4 seconds..I have reflux as well....this only happens when eating or drinking once a year approx.
I have had an incident like this 2 years ago where I lost consciousness for about 3 seconds..did not fall...
I did not fall this time but lost my balance and stumbled while in a daze..then everything was fine..

Other than that I do get that burning or squeezing feeling once in a while while eating or drinking..
Have reflux and irritable bowel....have had perfusion stress test with good results...
After the event I feel fine..immediately..

Brief Answer:
Cause by a vasovagal reflex!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. This is suggestive of a normal reaction to extreme emotions such as pain called vasovagal reflex. This leads to excessive parasympathetic action which suppresses most activities of the body leading which explains most of these symptoms.

I will suggest you try to avoid all potential triggers. When this happens, lie flat and get some rest. Also, drink much fluids.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
