Brief Answer:
Dehydration/bleeding from the mucosa/GERD...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

The brown stuff seen over the tongue could be because of the dehydration, acid reflux, bleeding from the tongue papillae/gums or medicines taken for any other problem.

1. Acid reflux: When the food contents along with acid from the stomach when it regurgitates into the throat, the tongue can get coated because of the food contents.

2. Repeated throat clearing or dehydration in the oral cavity can cause small blood vessels present over the mucosa or the tongue papillae to break thus causing coating of the tongue.

3. Any medicines taken for other medical problems can coat the tongue.

Do not worry! This is not something serious. My suggestions to your are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water.
2. Avoid coffee/tea/fizzy drinks/chilled beverages.
3. Avoid repeated throat clearing if any.

With these measures you will feel better. Revert back to me if you have any further queries.
