What Causes Bronchitis While Treating C. Difficile Infection?

Question: I have had cdiff for 3 weeks and have already been on 2 rounds of Flagyl. I also have colitis and now bronchitis. The colon itself was already uncomfortable but every cough puts pressure on it that seems to make it more and more sore. I've been to doc 3 times this week and my pulse was 92 the first time, 116 the second time, and 99 yesterday. My normal pulse is 60-70 and it wasn't like that when I originally got the cdiff. The top # on my Bp was also about 20 - 30 lower than my norm. Dr said I wasn't running a fever my temp was 97.3 which is also low for me. I'm still chilling and last night I woke up pouring sweat and my shirt practically stuck to me because it was so wet which has never happened before. I haven't sweated to bad today though. Is this something I need to go to er for since it seems like 2 very bad infections at one time or should I give the antibiotics for the bronchitis another day or 2? I am supposed to see GI dr again in a few days and I have been on bronchitis meds for 2 days.

Brief Answer:
Get CBC, blood culture and chest xray. You may need more antibiotic.

Detailed Answer:

Hello XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

As per your description you are undergoing treatment for chlostridium difficile with flagyl and now you also have bronchitis. Your symptoms are suggestive that you could be having an infection in the blood.

You should get your CBC, blood culture and a chest xray done to rule out any pneumonia and infection in the blood.

You may need another antibiotic along with flagyl, nebulization and other symptomatic treatment for control of your symptoms.

Please consult your PCP for correct antibiotics and their dosage.

Take nebulization, rest well and eat a healthy diet.

Take care.
