What Causes Breast Lumps With Mild Nipple Discharge?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Nov 2015
Question: I had mild nipple discharge in both breasts for years after nursing 30 yrs ago. It was thin but would accumulate into lumps and have to be manually expressed . It gradually ceased in my left breast but became thicker and more difficult to express over the years in my right breast. If not expressed it makes a small somewhat tender lump under my nipple. This is not a significant problem to me in itself but I wonder if I need to have it further evaluated. Biopsied?i have been menopausal for years, no supplements except initially I took some soy concentrates.

Brief Answer:
Galactorrhea with Right Galactocele in menopausal women/Under Investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,Dear,
Thanks for Your query to HCM.
I read your query and reviewed its contents with the health concerns of Galactocele,in the menopausal years.

So currently you have Only Galactocele in menopausal years, as the concern of health for you.
Small tender lumps under nipple with Galactocele are not a big concern for you,as submitted by you.But you are more worried for the assessment of the Causes of the Galactorrhea and treatment of it.

Investigations Suggested-
I would suggest you to consult Endocrinologist to treat Galactorhea with Galactoceles.
In such a scenario I would suggest you to-
-USG study of the Tender Galactoceles would help in planning Needle Aspiration.
-Do Skull CT and Skull X-ray For to rule out the Pituitary tumour with raised prolactineamica.
-Raised TSH levels with Low T3/Tr levels with Primary hypothyroidism needs to be ruled out in your case.
-MRI study of the Hypothalamus/pituitary stalks for the lesions causing prolctinemia
-Accompanied Chronic renal failure need to be ruled as the cause for Galactorrhea with prolactinemia.

Treatment Suggested-
-Bromcriptine and Cabergoline treatments - would treat the galactorrhea and Galactocles,by reduction of the prolactinemia.
-Pleated Nylon Hair to drain Galactoceles are lately been tried along with Needle aspiration of the Galactoceles if need be.

Hope this reply would help you to plan treatment of Tender lumps with Galactorrhea, with your doctors.
